Reflections on 2013

2013 was a pretty good year all things considered. Like every other year in my life there were ups and downs. To get the bad stuff out first so that I can end this on a good and positive note. I had to deal with some loss this year with the passing of my Great Aunt Margaret. She was my favorite aunt, and had been since she gave me a mini Tupperware set back in my early days. I always loved that gift and she never failed to disappoint. Unfortunately she lost her battle with Alzheimer’s this year and I was unable to attend her funeral and that made me really sad. I would have loved to say goodbye to my favorite aunt one last time, but on the bright side I have my memories of her, all the Sunday dinners I got to see her over the decades, and I still see a lot of her in my Cousin Gloria. I even had a horrid scare when my grandmother had an incident and nearly bleed to death thanks to her medications. Thank god she is much better! Wow! It has been a year since I had a date much less a boyfriend. I have to admit that I am a much more productive as a person without a relationship than I am with one. This is something that is kind of a catch twenty-two, or the preverbal double-edged sword. However, When it comes to dating and going out I have realized that internet dating is the new “Meat Market” Most people are looking for short term, friends with benefits, and one nighters, not what I am looking for at all. On top of this lets talk about the approach starting with game versus honesty, The number one complaint I hear from guys is about how women turn psycho on them. For one behind every psycho chick is a guy that is lying, cheating or running game. Guys, if you want to keep that girl in normal mode just be honest! If every girl you date turns into a psycho it is obviously something that you are doing wrong. We are not stupid, we know when something is up, when your not being honest. Losing Yourself in Relationships I will admit that I am as guilty as the next person of changing who I am just to fit into the illusion of why my mate wants me to be. I cannot even count the number of times I have said or done something that was not I just to please, or attempt to please, the person I was with. This is one of the largest double-edged swords when it comes to relationships. How many times have you been faced with the words, “Your not who you used to be?” or “You are not the one I fell in love with.” well DUH! People change through experiences and relationships. Sometimes we make a conscious decision to change who we are, and at times this happens without us even being aware of it. For me it would happen in the most desperate of time. Most often when I was looking for love, or worse, trying to keep it. One day I woke up and decided that enough was enough. And after a very short attempt at getting back into the dating scene I realized that my decision was the right one. This podcast is dedicated to my stupidity when it came to altering me to fit what I thought someone else wanted. My Advice is you’re like this: Remember that they are with you because the met you! My First Ever Podcast! YAY ME! Who is TheSingleGirl? Well I am Jennifer, a twice divorced Ex-military wife, and mother of one. One day my Ex decided that he wanted a divorce, Yes it was kind of out of the blue, but instead of curling up in bed and medicating myself to death while my life crumbled around my ears I got off my fanny and went out into the world and got my life! Why a podcast on this subject? Well, Relationships, much less breakups and divorces, don’t come with a manual that you can get wisdom from, not to mention most relationship experts are full of it, and most importantly I am not trying to sell you anything! Why am I special? Well, I am living it right here, and right now! I am simply living my life, making mistakes, and enjoying every triumph as I go along. I don’t have a PHD; I am not a psychologist! I am simply one woman who is eking out an existence one single day at a time. Rest assured that I am not going to tell you, “What you are doing is wrong,” and I most certainly am not going to tell you how to live your life. Instead, I am going to tell you my story and let you take from it what you want; and hope that you find your own way through singledom, through every hair pulling, nail biting, chocolate eating minute of it.
